Combining Images

A simple blending process is illustrated in the images in Figure 15-1. These illustrations are from an 8½ × 11-inch (21.59 × 28.27 cm) photo, a dark background, and a white background.

FIGURE 15-1: The image on the left shows how individual images combine to form the blended result.

Photoshop’s blending is raster-based, which means that you can edit an image by using any raster-based software. You might be able to do this in a paint program, but you’ll find that a photograph or photo-editing program like Photoshop gives you more control.

An illustration image in Photoshop isn’t suitable for blending. (At least not yet — more on this subject later in this chapter.)

Although you can combine any number of images in a single composition, here’s an overview of the basic steps:

1. **Open the images you want to combine in Photoshop.**
2. **Move, rotate, and crop the layers to your heart’s content.**
3. **Save and export the final composition as an EPS file.**

In this example, we used a JPEG file, and you see the results in Figure 15-2.

Both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements are Adobe’s flagship commercial applications. Photoshop elements is aimed primarily at user who are using their computers to create or edit images.

In this article we will show you how to use Photoshop and Photoshop Elements to edit images using the raw image format. You can also use images in Photoshop in raw form.

In the next part of this series we will look at the different formats that images can be saved in and convert the images from one format to another.

And if you want to learn more about Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, please read our beginners guide to Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements and our beginners guides to Photoshop actions or Photoshop tools.

Use Photoshop to Edit and Process Raw Images

This tutorial will help you edit and process raw images in Photoshop Elements. These raw images are not yet processed or converted to some format that would be more appropriate for display in a web browser.

When you open a raw file in Photoshop you get a dialog like the one in the image below. In this dialog you can select what you want to do with your image.

You can use the different tools to work with your image (for example, rotate, crop, or apply filter).

You can also use tools in the menu to make adjustments to your image.

In the menu, you can activate the adjustment brush. This tool helps you make small adjustments to your image.

In the menu you can also use layers and actions to edit your image.

Another thing you can do with raw images is save them in other formats. This way you can get more suitable images to use on the web.

You can save your image in a variety of formats.

You can save your image in all common image formats. These are png, jpg and tif formats.

You can also save your image as a web or site optimized image.

If you want to apply a filter to your image you can use the filter tool, which is in the menu, the most popular filters are:

Photoshop Elements has an equal facility to perform filtering. There are different Photoshop actions that you can use to filter images.

You can also use Photoshop Actions, available for free, if you have Photoshop, to filter images.

Raw files can be very big and very cumbersome to work with. But if you work with images in the raw format you can also easily optimize your images for web or print.

Women started sports like any other man. It wasn’t until the 20th century that they started to fight for being allowed to play in sports with men. But men haven’t exactly respected women in sports. So, we asked writers to talk about the best female athletes of all time.

Who Are You G.I. JOE With Kicks?

When was the last time you saw a female athlete wear pink? When was the last time you saw a female athlete wear a tutu? The only time a female athlete ever wore pink in sports? The 1980 Olympics. In 1984, Avery “The Joe” Ackerman from New York was a pioneering figure in gender equality in sports.

Ackerman was the first female college basketball player to wear a skirt. She refused to change her play to accommodate any man. She earned an athletic scholarship at Brown University in the 1980s. Because of her success she was hired as an assistant coach for girls’ basketball at the University of Pennsylvania.

In 1992, Ackerman was the first woman to coach a Division I basketball team, the University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team. She continued to pursue a career in coaching. While coaching the Rutgers women’s basketball team, she helped in the development of their program.

She coached the New York Giants in the 2006 Super Bowl. When asked about her role as a football coach, she said “I’d like to retire with four Super Bowl rings!”

What You Learn About G.I.JOE The Military Series

“I am glad that I was born in the United States. The greatest gift a human being can give to another is life. If she is fortunate enough to live that gift, she and her loved ones have a responsibility to pass the gift on as well.”

Women athletes have started to win for their gender and some have started to help others in this world.
